Cat Destroying a Ruysch

This picture was based on the painting "Still Life with Flowers and a Cricket" by the Dutch artist Rachel Ruysch (c1700). I wanted to create a still life picture to hang in my home's dining area that contained a trompe-l'oeil effect. I recreated the Ruysch painting using watercolors, oil pastels, and colored pencils. I modified the painting to include the cat and the torn canvas (perhaps the cat was drawn to the insects in the painting).
